Prior to 6 April 2011, employers in the UK could rely on the retirement of the employee as being a potentially fair reason for dismissal. This is no longer the case. Now, giving an employee notice of compulsory retirement at a specific age exposes employers to claims of unfair dismissal and unlawful age
